Celebrating 50 years of the Prog Rock pioneers:  March 2018

A chance meeting in a London drinking club between Jon Anderson and Chris Squire 50 years ago led to the formation of one of the greatest-ever prog rock bands. And 50 years on, they are being discovered by a new generation of fans joining the legion of followers who’ve been worshipers since the very beginning. This weekend in late March sees the band playing the final gigs of their celebratory tour and coincides with a major fan club convention.  Our tour, which has been developed with YES expert, author and fan club organiser, Dave Wakinson, celebrates the band’s history, visiting sites and locations that marked important stages in the band’s career.

Taking this 4-hour, fully-guided mini-coach tour, accompanied by expert YES guides in the company of fellow YES fans, puts the icing on

the cake of what promises to be a memorable weekend. As we travel across London, you’ll hear a raft of stories that explore the band’s pre-history, we’ll put the band’s music into its context and you’ll learn more about the personalities involved in their sometimes controversial journey.

Highlights include seeing the Soho locations where that first meeting took place and where the band first rehearsed. You’ll see the sites of their first gigs and some of their most memorable ‘watershed’ shows such as those at the Lyceum, Royal Albert Hall, Marquee and Kensington’s ‘Blaises’.

We’ll visit their original band flat in Fulham and several houses connected with individual band members.

We’ll see the studios where icon recordings were made, including Sarm, RAK, Advsion, Morgan, Trident and Townhouse.
Unfortunately, none of these still function. Add to this the studios of individual band members, management and record company offices
and the location of instantly recognisable publicity and album photos, and you have a great musical adventure!

As with all of our special band themed-tours, you’ll also be hearing about the history of other legendary bands whose histories
collided with that of YES.
